This will show you how to shut off the Curb Stop with common household tools.

During an emergency you may find it necessary to shut off water to your home or business.  All connections in GWC have a customer valve – called the “Point of Entry Valve” or “POE Valve” which is downstream of the utility’s meter and Curb Stop Valve.  The POE Valve is the easiest method of turning off the water to your home or business.  The POE Valve is located either in a valve box downstream of the utility’s meter box – that is between your home and the meter – or at the place where the water enters your home.

If the POE Valve is not locatable and you have an in-ground irrigation system, the next best solution is to close the outlet valve of the Backflow Protection Device.  If you have a Backflow Protection Device installed, it is typically located in a valve box downstream of the utility meter box.

If neither the POE Valve nor the Backflow Protection Device outlet valve can be found, the utility Curb Stop Valve will turn off the water to your home.  Please note that this is a utility-owned valve and is not to be used by the homeowner.  In dire emergencies, however, this may be the only option.  Also note that damage to this valve by the homeowner will result in the homeowner paying for repairs to that valve.  You must also inform the utility at support@greenwoodwatercorp.com that you have closed this valve.
